Examensarbete Functional Standards in Railway

The objective of this thesis is to develop functional standards for Swedish railways, based on the specific needs of existing and planned systems, and to establish target visions for each proposed standard to optimize designs for different uses, such as freight and passenger traffic.

This thesis will focus on the development of functional standards for Swedish railway systems, using current and future railway infrastructure as a foundation. It will categorize these standards by their specific functions, such as freight or passenger services, and establish clear target visions for each proposed standard. The study will also explore how these standards can be optimized to improve railway design and assess their impact on long-term maintenance, sustainability, and the overall efficiency of the railway network.

Research question:

How can functional railway standards in Sweden be developed and optimized based on existing and planned railway systems, and what target visions can be set for each proposed standard to enhance functionality, long-term maintenance, and sustainability?
