University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna

The University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna, is the oldest academic educational and research institution for veterinary medicine in the German-speaking world. It is considered one of the best educational institutions for veterinary medicine in Europe. Its central focus is the protection of human and animal health and the production of healthy food stuff. The animal hospital with its university clinics is an integrated component of the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna. Aside from its function as a teaching hospital for students, it also welcomes animal owners: More than 41,500 animals have been treated here in 2012.

The 15-hectar campus offers an extremely modern teaching and research infrastructure for the approx. 1,200 members of staff at the university (of which 645 are scientific members of staff) and 2,300 students. Many subsidiaries, partner companies and specialist associations also use the campus. The VUW aims to find solutions to problems in the fields of animal help, the protection of human health by combating zoonosis, food quality assurance, interdependence between people, animals and the environment and contribute to the maintenance of the biological diversity and the protection of animals.

This certificate was first awarded in 2011 to the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna. As one of the first universities in Austria, it was awarded for successful reconciliation of family, study and work.

The criteria for which are needs-based child care and the sustainability of applied family-friendly measures.

The "Career and Family" Certificate (berufundfamilie) of the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna was first awarded to the University in 2010, and has now been integrated into the "University and Family" Certificate. The “Career and Family" Certificate was awarded for improved career opportunities for mothers and for financial and organisational support given to bodies representing parental interests in the departments involved.
