Diakonhjemmet University College

Diakonhjemmet University College is a diaconal, Norwegian private Lutheran educational institution with traditions dating back to 1890.
The university college focuses on health and social care studies and diakonia. Professional quality and practical relevance are among our primary goals. Through educational and research activities, Diakonhjemmet University College wants to serve the society and church, domestically and internationally.

Diakonia
Diakonia is understood as an integral dimension of the Church and as its caring ministry expressed through loving your neighbour, creating inclusive communities, caring for creation and struggling for justice. (Church of Norway, Plan for diakonia).

The concept of care is used in a wide sense, embracing different forms of intervention and contexts for action. Diakonia’s caring ministry addresses both marginalized individuals and groups in situations of need. It seeks to promote their human dignity and include them in both church and society, and to create space for their participation and empowerment in social processes. The diaconal mandate also includes care for creation and thus coresponsibility for its integrity.
